Oliveiras 160

2022 Porto, Portugal

Located in a dense and uncharacteristic urban environment, the house turns in on itself, opening onto a patio that acts as an urban oasis, the stage for the family's daily life.

Of the pre-existing house, which was in a state of ruin, only the main façade was preserved, given its relative architectural interest. Facing the busy street, the façade dating from the first half of the 20th century has been restored while remaining faithful to the original design. Contemporaneity is achieved by treating the windows and entrance door with great formal stylisation.

Crowning the façade, a terrace invites you to contemplate the surroundings from a higher level.

The new volume of the building, clad in green zinc, establishes a strong contrast with the main façade due to its texture and geometry. A window on the side is a transitional element between old and new, creating a suggestive façade composition and allowing strategic light into the interior stairwell.

In the courtyard, a large pre-existing lemon tree takes centre stage and invites uses to revolve around it.
