Chaves Oliveira Office

2022 Porto, Portugal

185 m²

Photos: António Ataide

Designed to be a multifunctional workspace accommodating two companies with distinct needs, the office unfolds in a spacious, rectangular floor plan, culminating in an outdoor courtyard. The opening of the work area to the exterior, the constant presence of the garden's greenery, and the abundant influx of natural light are the essential concepts that guided the design.

At the entrance, a reception area invites a contemplative pause, allowing one to admire the furniture and the artwork on the wall. A narrow corridor leads to a wide and open-plan workspace. On either side, there are the meeting room and the kitchenette, separated by a linen curtain that, rather than physically delineating, creates a visual fluidity, maintaining the versatility of the space.

The green linoleum flooring, primarily composed of cork, provides a soft texture that contrasts with the coarseness of the linen curtains. Behind these curtains, the technical areas — the kitchenette and the bathrooms — are hidden, wrapped in a yellow hue that refers to the corporate identity of the companies. The opening of the curtains generates a theatrical effect, giving character and prominence to these less exposed areas.

The relationship between interior and exterior is emphasized by a large window that opens fully, extending the boundary of the workspace up to the courtyard wall, in an intentional fusion of environments. This effect, combined with a cozy atmosphere created by fabrics, rugs, and wooden furniture, promotes a pleasant working environment, ideal for fostering creativity.
